MFG Korea (엠에프지코리아), which operates Mad for Garlic (매드포갈릭), launched a new dining brand, Casa Pedro (까사페드로), and opened its first store at Grand Seoul in Seoul's Jongno district, the company said on 20 October. Newsis and Chosun Ilbo reported that the launch is meant to expand the company's brand portfolio. [ 8 , 9 , 11 ]

Chosun Ilbo reported that the opening event was held in the morning and was attended by MFG Korea chief executive Yoon Da-ye (윤다예) and senior staff. The store is in Grand Seoul, which Chosun Ilbo said is connected to Jonggak Station on Seoul Subway Line 1. Chosun Ilbo said the location was chosen because of the large number of office workers around Gwanghwamun and Jongno. Yonhap said the company explained that the store targets diners from commuters to brunch and evening gatherings. [ 9 , 11 ]

Casa Pedro uses the slogan 'Setting a table for a day full of care, Pedro's table'. Chosun Ilbo reported that the name combines 'Casa', meaning house, with 'Pedro', which evokes the friendly host of a Mediterranean village. Newsis reported that the Grand Seoul store runs as all-day dining, and the menu includes salad bowls, pastry flatbreads, all-day brunch, pasta, warm pans, and grilled dishes and steaks. [ 1 , 8 , 9 ]

The signature dishes are the Casa whole-burrata salad and the Pedro brunch platter, which is French toast served with sausage, bacon and scrambled eggs. The menu also includes Korean-ingredient dishes: a pasta made with perilla oil, pollock roe and perilla leaves, and 'Egg in Hell Tteokbokki', which Newsis described as a reinterpretation in the style of shakshuka. [ 8 , 9 , 11 ]

According to Newsis and Chosun Ilbo, the interior uses olive-green tile and terracotta-toned flooring with wood tones and orange. Chosun Ilbo added a plant mural, wine racks and potted plants. Yoon said the brand draws on the company's accumulated restaurant-operating know-how and aims to give customers the feeling of being invited into someone's home. Yonhap reported that MFG Korea is running a promotion through the 30th of next month, including 15% off morning takeout orders. [ 8 , 9 , 11 ]

Asia Economy described Casa Pedro as a new brunch cafe, while most other outlets called it a dining brand. [ 1 , 6 , 7 , 8 ]
