🇨🇳 China 17:52 Business Business2 Tech2 updated 3 h ago first reported by 财联社

In short

Samsung Electronics has reportedly set a provisional 2027 target of 100 million OLED Galaxy A phones, down from the 120 million it gave partners in late September. Outlets cite rising memory prices as the main reason in two reports, and say the overall 2027 smartphone target of more than 250 million units may also be cut.

Samsung Electronics has set a provisional 2027 shipment target of 100 million OLED Galaxy A series phones, according to reports carried by Chinese outlets on 20 October. CLS described the phones as mid-range, while Jiemian and IT Home called them mid- to low-end. [ 1 , 2 , 4 ]

The figure is 20 million below the 120 million target that Samsung gave partners in late September, CLS and Jiemian reported. IT Home, citing ZDNET Korea, said Samsung's MX business recently shared the new estimate with partners. It added that Samsung expects 110 million OLED Galaxy A shipments in 2026, so the 2027 figure would be 10 million lower. Jiemian likewise said the new target is below this year's expected 110 million. [ 1 , 2 , 4 ]

CLS and 36Kr, the latter attributing the text to Sina Finance, said the main reason for the cut was rising memory prices. They said this raises the possibility that Samsung will also lower its overall smartphone target for next year. [ 2 , 3 ]

Samsung had originally planned to ship more than 250 million smartphones in 2027 but is reportedly revising that plan. CLS and 36Kr said it is widely believed the final figure will be more than 20 million below the original plan. IT Home put the likely level at around 230 million, and Jiemian said the market expects a cut of at least 20 million. [ 1 , 2 , 3 , 4 ]

Jiemian also reported that, because of reduced component orders, Samsung's expected 2026 smartphone shipments have been lowered from 240 million to just over 230 million units. IT Home noted that only Samsung's entry-level A0 family of Galaxy A phones still uses LCD panels, while the A1, A2, A3 and A5 tiers now all use OLED. [ 1 , 4 ]

Why it matters

If the reports are accurate, Samsung's plans for its mid- and lower-range Galaxy A phones and for total smartphone shipments in 2027 are being scaled back. The documents give no official Samsung statement, so the figures remain reported, not confirmed by the company.
