Hyundai Motor and Kia will showcase about 200 manufacturing technologies at their Uiwang research centre from October 19 to 21, the companies announced on October 18. The seventh edition of their manufacturing technology exhibition will present work developed by their manufacturing solutions division and partner companies. Exhibits are grouped into four areas: technologies supporting software-defined factories, autonomy and automation, energy solutions and future mobility. The event is intended to share smart factory technologies and set out the companies' plans for changing factory operations. [ 1 , 2 ]
The automakers said their software-defined factory approach centres on unified data collection and management, alongside a common development environment. They aim to make it easier to develop and introduce manufacturing solutions at plants in South Korea and overseas. A digital twin exhibit links a virtual environment with real factory equipment for simulations, allowing processes to be checked and optimised before problems arise. Factory-specific AI agents will also be shown for tasks including data retrieval and analysis, searching manufacturing expertise and producing equipment manuals. [ 1 , 2 ]
Automation exhibits include a tunnel-shaped system that inspects vehicle exteriors using three-dimensional simulation. The companies developed the technology themselves after previously using outside suppliers' systems and plan to introduce it at domestic and overseas factories. Other exhibits cover additive manufacturing that creates shapes without moulds and energy technologies for environmentally friendly factory operations. A manufacturing technology presentation competition and supplier seminars will accompany the exhibition, including discussions of physical AI and data-driven manufacturing innovation. Seoul Economic Daily, which attended an October 16 media event, reported that the companies aim to build autonomous operations by 2032 and will test technologies at their Singapore innovation centre before wider deployment.
