DGIST will build an AI-focused campus in Daegu's Suseong Alpha City by 2030 under a cooperation agreement signed with the city on October 15. The project, estimated at about 353.9 billion won, is to combine an AI college with joint research, technology demonstration and housing facilities. The agreement was signed at Daegu's Sangyeok government complex. [ 1 , 2 , 3 , 4 ]
The new AI college will operate separately from DGIST's existing academic structure. It plans to recruit at least 200 new students each academic year: at least 100 undergraduates, 50 master's students and 50 doctoral students. DGIST also plans to appoint about 50 additional full-time faculty members by 2030, according to Yonhap and Kukmin Ilbo. [ 1 , 2 ]
The campus is planned on a 12,847-square-metre site, with 40,115 square metres of total floor area. National government, municipal and private funding are included in the estimated cost. The four core facilities are the AI college, an industrial AI-transformation innovation hub, an AI-transformation demonstration R&D centre and D-Alpha House. Yonhap said they would be developed in stages by 2030. [ 1 , 2 , 3 , 4 ]
The industrial innovation hub is intended to support company-led joint research, demonstration, training and commercialisation through cooperation among industry, universities and research institutes. The R&D centre aims to attract global research operations such as those of Infineon and support joint research infrastructure and advanced AI-transformation work. D-Alpha House will provide residential support for graduate students, staff and visiting researchers. City and DGIST leaders described the campus as a way to link education, industrial innovation, research and living facilities while strengthening regional AI talent development. [ 1 , 2 , 3 , 4 ]
